From Crises to Crypto: How Ripple’s RLUSD Is Speeding up Emergency Funds
Ripple is accelerating a global shift in humanitarian finance as its RLUSD stablecoin sees explosive growth and adoption by top aid organizations leveraging blockchain to deliver faster, cheaper, and more transparent disaster relief across underserved regions.
Ripple Hits Hard With RLUSD Surge as Aid Giants Tap Blockchain for Relief
Ripple’s increasing influence in blockchain-based philanthropy highlights a growing movement toward digital financial systems that streamline global aid. On Oct. 30, Ripple announced that leading humanitarian organizations — including World Central Kitchen, Water.org, Givedirectly, and Mercy Corps — are piloting Ripple Payments and Ripple USD (RLUSD) to improve the speed, efficiency, and transparency of global relief distribution.
The initiative reflects a broader shift toward using blockchain to strengthen financial access in regions with limited infrastructure and to enhance the accountability of cross-border transactions.
Monica Long, president of Ripple, emphasized the impact of combining blockchain with purpose-driven innovation:
Among the early adopters, World Central Kitchen is already integrating Ripple’s solutions to expedite support for communities affected by crises. “Building on this partnership, WCK is now leveraging Ripple Payments and RLUSD to accelerate the disbursement of funds to local restaurants and partners in regions without established banking infrastructure—enabling faster, more transparent delivery of critical support,” Ripple noted. These efforts showcase how blockchain-enabled systems can shorten payment timelines and increase the impact of emergency aid.
Ripple’s collaboration with nonprofits extends beyond aid delivery to financial innovation. According to the crypto firm: “Ripple is also collaborating with nonprofit partners on pilot programs testing RLUSD in applications such as parametric insurance for unbanked populations and anticipatory cash transfers. This includes multiple pilots with Mercy Corps Ventures currently underway in Kenya, and similar pilots being scoped with Givedirectly.”
The company noted its stablecoin’s rapid growth:
Collectively, these partnerships underscore how stablecoins could transform humanitarian finance by offering faster, lower-cost, and more equitable mechanisms for delivering aid worldwide.
